Principal's Message
Design Science Middle College High School (DSMCHS) is a Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) public high school, located on the Fresno City College (FCC) campus in the Business Building. The school opened with 50 students in the fall of 2005 with the current enrollment of 245 students for the fall of 2025.
During the first two years, students spend the majority of their time in the Design Science Middle College High School building taking high school and selected college courses. In years three and four, students maintain a full-load of college courses. Design Science Middle College High School students work toward earning up to 60 units of transferable credit to a CSU or UC and their high school diploma. Many also earn their Fresno City College Associate's degree.
The success of our school lies with the collaboration between students, families, DSMCHS staff, FUSD supports, FCC partners, and community members. We are grateful for everyone to make it the Best School in the Universe (one of our Five Pillars).

Dear Design Science Students and Families,
We hope you all are enjoying the summer break. Some of you may be at a Fresno Unified School District camp, while a few of you might be working or learning how to drive. We hope you all make the most of the break doing something you love, learning a new hobby, or hanging out with your loved ones.
We are writing to prepare you for the new school year. Please remember not to schedule vacations or absences when we start school on August 8, as we begin before other Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) schools. Here are the important dates:
9th GRADE SUMMER BRIDGE
o July 28 – August 1, Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 12:00 pm, Design Science classrooms at FCC Business Education Building. Only Freshmen Class of 2029 are invited to attend this program to learn how to transition to high school and Fresno City College. There will also be fun opportunities to get to know other new Design Science students and meet Mrs. Laplaca and Mrs. Munoz.

9TH GRADE LINK CREW
o August 6, Wednesday, 8:30 am – 12:00 pm, Fresno City College Old Administration Building (OAB 188). Only Freshmen Class of 2029 are invited to join in this morning event, which will be led by our older DSMCHS students. It is a fun event to help build positive bonds and connections before the rest of the school arrives the next day. Students will check their schedule on Atlas and take their photos for their FCC college IDs. They will get to meet Mr. Enriquez and Mr. Yang.
o Link Crew leaders will be calling families to personally invite your student.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
o August 7, Thursday, 8:30 am to 3:15 pm, Design Science classrooms at FCC Business Education and New Science buildings. ALL FRESHMEN/SOPHOMORE WILL START IN BUSINESS ED BUILDING.
o We encourage students to bring a backpack, laptop and charger, a reuseable bottle of water, and pencils. Teachers will notify students on school supplies and other needs in their classes and syllabi.
o Please look at the enclosed “DSMCHS 2025-2026 Bell Schedules” and “DSMCHS 2025-2026 School Calendar”.
FUSD LAPTOP REQUIRED: Many of you coming from FUSD middle schools should already have a district laptop. You will need to bring it and a charger to school every day. If you do not have one yet or are due for a computer refresh, please call FUSD FLATS at 559-457-3939 to arrange to pick up a laptop. *For those who are new coming into the district, we recommend obtaining a free FUSD-issued laptop ready for the school year. You will not be able to pick up the new laptop at FUSD FLATS until school officially begins on Monday, August 18. We will have a computer for you to check out until then.
FUSD DRESS CODE ENFORCED: Please also review our FUSD Dress Code, as some current fashions may not be appropriate school attire. If you have a problem with the district dress code, please bring it up to FUSD Constituent Services at (559) 457-3736 or Constituent.Services@fresnounified.org. We will let students off with a warning the first time, but please be ready to be called in to pick up your child or bring in FUSD compliant clothing after that first warning. Please look at the enclosed “FUSD Dress Code”.
DSMCHS/FCC CLASS SCHEDULE QUESTIONS: Students will receive their class schedules the first week of school, and we will address any needs or make adjustments through August 8, the Friday. For sophomores to seniors, if you have any questions concerning college classes, please email our Design Science Counselor, Sandra Munoz, at Sandra.Cloney@fresnounified.org for a response or appointment.
DSMCHS DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP: There is a map enclosed that pinpoints where you may drop-off and pick-up your student. We recommend these two places, because administration will be out there for supervision. Please drive carefully and be aware of other cars pulling in and out of the spaces. Please drop off and pick up your child on time. Please look at enclosed “FCC Map”. FRESHMEN WILL BE TAKING ALL THEIR CLASSES AT FCC BUSINESS ED BUILDING, SO DROP OFF AT COLLEGE AND WELDON.
DSMCHS PARKING: Fresno City College will resume parking pass requirements. Families and students will be ticketed if they park in Staff Lot K. Therefore, we recommend that you park in Parking Lot B or any other student lot...and pay for a parking pass. Please create a State Center Community College District (SCCCD) parking account at https://mycampuspermit.com/fresno-city.html to purchase parking passes. For students who drive, they will have to buy their own parking pass every semester. For occasional school wide family events, there will be relaxed parking. We will notify you about those specific events.
COMMUNICATION CHANNELS: We will be communicating through ParentSquare App, so please make sure your Fresno Unified Atlas has the most up-to-date information contact details. This is how FUSD will connect you to the ParentSquare app. You may also visit us on our website at https://designscience.fresnounified.org/ . We frequently post on Instagram (@dsmchs) and Facebook (@Design Science Middle College High School) too.
ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES: Please always call our front office at 559-489-2270 to clear any tardies or absences. Please always call the front office first, before you pick up your child, so we can account for their location during the school day. Please do not pick up your child without calling or visiting the front office first.
DSMCHS VISITATION PROCEDURES: If you intend to visit our school or staff, please always check in the front office (BE 136). Do not barge into an office or classroom unannounced. If you would like to meet with a specific staff or teacher, please schedule an appointment with the front office at 559-489-2270.
